Recognizing Corporate Accountability for Sustainable Development

On December 6, 2024, the Provincial Government of West Kalimantan hosted the TSBLP Award 2024 at the Mercure Hotel, Pontianak. The event recognized corporations that have implemented and reported their Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Development Programs (Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Bina Lingkungan Perusahaan or TSBLP).

The Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Bina Lingkungan Perusahaan (TSBLP) Award is an initiative designed to recognize companies that demonstrate commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental development. The award is closely tied to both local regulations and global sustainability standards, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By rewarding companies for their efforts to implement and report on TSBLP initiatives, the award encourages the private sector to integrate social and environmental responsibilities into their business models, ensuring long-term positive impacts for communities and ecosystems.

TSBLP initiatives in Indonesia are governed by Regional Regulation No. 4 of 2016 and Governor Regulation No. 56 of 2017, which require companies to report their CSR and environmental programs. This aligns with the global call for accountability and transparency in achieving the SDGs, particularly goals focused on responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), life below water (SDG 14), and life on land (SDG 15). Through these efforts, the TSBLP Award supports the broader global sustainability agenda and fosters collaboration between the private sector, government, and civil society to create lasting, impactful change.

The primary objectives of the TSBLP Award are:

  • 1

To appreciate corporations for their commitment to corporate social and environmental responsibility.

  • 2

To motivate companies to report their TSBLP implementation through the E-TSBLP platform for greater accountability and transparency.

Expected outcomes from the initiative include:

  • 1

Sustained corporate commitment to TSBLP programs and consistent reporting through digital platforms.

  • 2

Broader adoption of the E-TSBLP platform to enhance planning, execution, and reporting of TSBLP in West Kalimantan.

One of the awardees, PT Kandelia Alam, was among 25 companies recognized for their performance based on the E-TSBLP reporting category. This acknowledgment underscores the importance of private sector contributions to achieving sustainable development goals in the region.

With the theme “Collaboration and Synergy for a Prosperous and Progressive West Kalimantan,” the event brought together key stakeholders, including regional leaders, local government agencies, NGOs, and private sector representatives. Attendees included the Acting Regional Secretary of West Kalimantan, regents and mayors, Bappeda representatives, vertical agencies, universities, USAID SEGAR, and JARI BORNEO BARAT.

The TSBLP Award embodies the principles championed by the Nusantara Climate Initiative (NCI), which promotes Nature-Based Solutions(NbS) to address environmental challenges and bolster local resilience. By fostering partnerships between the government, private sector, and civil society, the initiative aligns with NCI’s mission to drive sustainable socioeconomic development while preserving critical ecosystems.  West Kalimantan’s government hopes this initiative will inspire more companies to actively participate in TSBLP programs, ensuring synergy and shared responsibility for the region’s sustainable growth.
